Dr Bob Rowlands is a technical consultant with over 30 years experience in the area of industrial strain and process yield improvement with Glaxo, Beecham, Panlabs and Dragon Associates. His particular areas of expertise are in fermentation genetics (stabilization of industrial strains, mutation, selection and breeding), and medium and process development. He has published numerous scientific papers on the subject and is an Honorary Lecturer in Applied Microbiology at Cardiff University. However, during his career Dr Rowlands has always been involved in the production side of the fermentation business rather than the research and development side and so he is very conscious of the time- and cost-related concerns of the modern fermentation plant.
